ASTTROLOK | Before Devshayam Ekadashi and after Nirjala Ekadashi, the event of Ekadashi occurs is known as YOGINI EKADASHI.
SIGNIFICANCE OF YOGINI EKADASHI:
Having great significance, Yogini Ekadashi is observed all over India. Whoever follows the rituals, according to the Padma Puraan, achieves good health, prosperity, and a happy life.
The legends narrate the story of a gardener and his beautiful wife, Visapakshi. The gardener worked under Kuvera, king of Alkapuri — a pious devotee of Lord Shiv. The gardener would daily collect flowers from Mansarovar lake and provide them to the king for Shiv Puja. Highly attracted to his wife, the gardener one day stayed back with his wife thus neglecting his duties of providing flowers to the king.
Summoned to the palace the gardener begged forgiveness but the king cursed him with the infliction of leprosy (serious health issues) and separation from his wife. The gardener was then thrown out of the palace and was inflicted with serious health issues.
Wandering through the forests for years he reached the ashram of the great sage Markendaya and narrates the whole story. The sage then advised the gardener to observe Yogini Ekadashi and get relief from the curse. The gardener observed the fast and returned to his normal self and appearance. He reunited with his wife and they both lived happily thereafter.
