For people following Hindu Religion, Hariyali Teej is the second Teej festival. Celebrated mostly in North and Central India. Hariyali Teej, most of the time, celebrates one day before Ganesh Chaturthi. Celebrated to welcome the monsoon in the region, which is essential for the crops and agriculture. Mainly celebrated by women and young girls, the festival is given to song, dance and other rituals. Women apply henna to their hands and feet and wear red, green, and orange coloured clothes, wear coloured bangles especially green, share festive foods, and play under trees on swings. Hariyali Teej is also known as Chhoti Teej and Shravan Teej.


Hariyali Teej signifies greenery and so women wear green coloured dresses and bangles to mark the auspicious occasion. Hariyali Teej is celebrated by the women, and dedicated to the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on the third day of the bright half of the shravan’s lunar month. A fast is kept by the women and girls for a happy married life and a husband’s long life. One also worships Goddess Parvati on this day.

Remedies That Can Be Done This Day

  • If unmarried girls offer two betel leaves with betel nuts to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, the girls can hope for a boy of her wishes for marriage.
  • Offer cosmetics on this day to Goddess Parvati and give these to elderly women at home or to Pandit’s wife at a temple. The result will be good luck.
  • Make sweet Kheer on this day and offer to Goddess Parvati a post which gives to your husband and partakes yourself too. Increases love between husband and wife.
  • Cosmetics may also be offered to eleven married ladies.
  • Take blessings from elderly people in the family.
  • All these will give you blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
